Brasil pode receber Dakar a partir de 2012

A ASO, organizadora da prova, já confirmou existirem conversações com o governo brasileiro para que as praias de Copacabana sejam parte do cenário de partida do Dakar em 2012 ou em 2013. A partir dali, o Dakar iria dirigir-se ao Paraguai, passando pela Argentina e Chile antes de chegar ao Peru.

Para Etienne Lavigne este seria “um evento grande e fabuloso para a América do Sul, pois o espírito do Dakar é este mesmo: descobrir novos países e organizar algo nunca antes visto.” Também o ministério do desporto do Brasil informou que “existe interesse em alojar o evento”.

Caso se confirme, ainda não será desta que o Dakar volta às suas raízes, em África, o que acabará por acontecer mais cedo ou mais tarde. Entretanto, outras organizações, como o África Race, vão-se posicionando nos terrenos antes ocupados pela ASO, que parece querer esgotar todas as alternativas na América do sul antes do regresso a Àfrica.
