Sébastien Loeb fez história ao igualar os quatro títulos de Tommi Makinen (campeão em 1996, 1997, 1998 e 1999) e Juha Kankkunen (1986, 1987, 1991 e 1993), tornando-se assim o terceiro piloto a vencer quatro títulos mundiais de ralis. A exemplo de Makinen, Loeb logrou conseguir também o seu quarto título consecutivo.
Nesta prova, pouco mais teria de fazer do que conseguir trazer o carro incólume ao final do rali, na pior das hipóteses, na quinta posição. Fê-lo com a maior das facilidades, apesar de se ter deparado com as mais difíceis condições da época: Chuve, lama, nevoeiro e as habituais estradas das florestais de Gales:
«Tentei rodar o mais suavemente possível, travando cedo. Penso mesmo que na maioria das vezes até travava cedo demais. Garanto que preferia ter andado a fundo, a lutar pela vitória, mas não era decididamente a postura correcta tendo em conta as circunstâncias. O título era o meu objectivo, e é bom vencer depois dum ano sempre em luta com o Marcus.»
