A super especial da Figueira da Foz no Rali de Portugal 1997
A emoção de quem seguiu o troço ao vivo foi inigualável, mas a verdade é que a inconsciência de quem estava colocado à beira da estrada foi enorme. São famosas as palavras de Luís Moya, navegador de Carlos Sainz, que dentro do Ford Escort WRC não se coibiu de dizer o que lhe ia na alma: “Nunca vi nada assim na minha vida ‘coño’, animales…” ou mesmo Colin McRae “Inacreditável!” Ou Nick Grist: “Isto é de doidos… ” Realmente, visto de dentro dos carros o “filme” era ainda mais dramático, e ironicamente no fim a organização anulou uma especial que nunca teve condições sequer para ter começado.
O facto de ter estado prevista uma extensão maior para o troço, que se viu amputado de mais de metade, acabou por agrupar ainda mais as pessoas, exponenciado o perigo. Compreende-se a dificuldade de anular a especial, e felizmente as recordações desse dia são todas boas. Pode dizer-se que é pena, mas nunca mais se viverá nada assim no WRC.
