A etapa de hoje do Rali Rota da Seda voltou a contar com competição renhida, com Krzysztof Holowczyc (BMW), Stéphane Peterhansel (MINI) e Alexander Zheludov (Nissan Frontier) a lutarem pela vitória nesta quinta especial da prova.
Contudo, a prestação de cada um deles viu-se afetada por alguns problemas, com o polaco a ter de substituir um pneu furado, o francês a perder tempo devido a problemas de refrigeração no seu MINI, enquanto Zheludov perdeu-se devido a uma falha do GPS.
No final da especial, acabou por ser o polaco, líder da classificação geral, a vencer a sua segunda tirada, apenas 2m49s na frente de Peterhansel. Este consolidou o seu segundo posto na classificação geral face ao russo, que perdido pelo seu GPS optou por abrandar para não incorrer em qualquer penalização por excesso de velocidade ou erros em controlos. Com isso, perdeu cerca de 37 minutos, mantendo o terceiro lugar. Ronan Chabot lidera os duas rodas motrizes, enquanto nos camiões é Firdaus Kabirov o melhor, 52 minutos na frente de Karel Loprais. A prova do Dakar Series, que arrancou domingo, liga Moscovo a Sochi, termina no sábado, após sete etapas.
